Procedure Overview

The method is based on a competitive colorimetric ELISA assay. The toxinof interest has been coated in the plate wells. During the analysis, sample isadded along with the primary antibody specific for the target toxin. If thetarget is present in the sample, it will compete for the antibody, therebypreventing the antibody from binding to the toxin attached to the well. Thesecond antibody, tagged with a peroxidase enzyme, targets the primary antibodythat is complexed to the toxin coated on the plate wells. The resulting colorintensity, after addition of substrate, has an inverse relationship with thetarget concentration in the sample.
