ProcedureOverview

Thebeta-lactamase test pad provides a qualitative method for detectingbeta-lactamase in milk. The nitrocefin is coated on the pad. If there is beta-lactamase in milk, it hydrolyzes the beta-lactam ring of nitrocefin, producing cephalosporanic acid. A distinctive color change isassociated with this reaction. The pale yellow nitrocefin turns pink after hydrolysis within the time limits of the test.
